So, your thinking about painting the exterior of your home but unsure if your contractor will safely protect your items? At Sharper Edge Painting we pay very high attention to the prep work! Prep work should always be done prior to any paints being applied to the home. Whether we are doing a simple gate renovation, or a full exterior paint there will always be prep work to do! With over 100 years of combined experience on our team, we understand how important it is to not only provide a custom paint job, but also protect your home and personal belongings in the process.
Prior to painting, we have no problem helping to move your furniture away from walls. To help us prepare more efficiently, and ensure the best results, all shrubs and trees need to be trimmed back at least two feet from the perimeter walls or home.
If your community has an HOA you will likely need to get approval from them prior to our scheduled start date. We are very experienced in dealing with HOAs and are happy to answer any questions you may have regarding the approval process. You can find HOA approved colors for your association by entering you zip code or association name on the Dunn Edwards or Sherwin Williams website. Just follow the links below.
We take great pride in making sure our customers are completely satisfied with the finished product! A full exterior paint typically takes about a week (Monday through Friday). Being present during the painting process is completely safe, as all products we use are low to no VOC, meaning they are non toxic and safe to be around.
During a full exterior paint, we start by power washing and scraping all peeling paint. We then apply Drylok, which is a water seepage preventer and masonry primer, to the foundation stem wall.
Next, we carefully cover all windows, floors, fixtures, and any other items not being painted.
This is followed by scraping loose paint on wood fascia and repairing cracks and corners with an elastomeric patch.

Your home may require a sealer coat, or priming. This is typically based on how long it has been since your home was last painted. If it has been over 8 years, odds are you will need this step completed. We apply one coat of Sealcrete Sealer on the exterior stucco prior to the finish coats. This step seals in old oxidize finishes and creates a great surface for the new paint to stick to.
After the sealer coat, all stucco and overhang is sprayed in your selected color and finish. We recommend a flat finish.
Garage doors, side doors, back and front doors are then sprayed in your selected color and finish. We recommend a semi-gloss finish.
Just as important as prep work, is the clean up. We take care to remove all trash and debris from the project. We then walk the home with you to ensure your complete satisfaction and address any necessary touch ups you may request.
